(A roleplay between Mini and Emiko - please don't post unless you're one of us! :3 )

Rosie had been incredibly excited to plan an exploration trip into the far reaches of the Amazon. Being both an avid wildlife revitalization enthusiast and an anthropologist (not to mention an artist at heart), she was thrilled to finally be able to gather the data she would need to finish up the rest of her graduate work. Originally from England, she had traveled all over the world as a young girl and had never really lived in any one place for more than two years. Her parents were both famous professors and researchers, making it their goal to do as much good for the world as they could. They had passed their desires along to their daughter, as well. Out of all of the places they had ever lived and visited, Rosie had simply fallen in love with South America. She was well versed in at least a dozen different languages and had a personality that people just fell in love with at first glance. It was probably that personality which allowed her to fall into the good graces of many of the indigenous people scattered all across the rain forest. She had explored so much of the rain forest, and yet she knew that she had probably scarcely covered even 5% of the place. It was a world waiting to be discovered.

Today was her third day exploring the vast jungle a day's hike away from the tiny little settlement that had no name, but was a two day journey from the nearest actual "established" area. Even from there, it was a good day's travel to Santarem, the closest big city. Rosie was far, far away from the rest of the world - just how she liked it. The tall and graceful redhead had set out for the day wearing brown cargo shorts, a dark green tank top, and hiking boots. She had braided her hair off to the side and had a native-made hand-dyed bandanna tied around her head. The morning had been spent taking a survey of plant life in the area, and she had just finished taking notes on where she had spotted new growths of red bromeliads when she heard the cry of a strange bird she had never heard before. Intrigued, she slipped her notepad back into the deep side pocket of her cargo pants and took off through the underbrush, following its call. Perhaps it was some new species just waiting to be discovered!

The ground was slippery, and Rosie forgot just where she was going for a moment and looked up into the trees instead of down where she was walking. A large root caught her foot, and the next thing she knew, she was tumbling down a very steep hillside. The ground beneath her suddenly gave way, and she felt herself falling - no, sliding? She was sliding down what appeared to be some sort of massive, hollowed out tree! She came tumbling out into a large, flowery bush. Once she got her bearings, Rosie realized that she had fallen a long way down, and she saw no decent way to climb back up to where she had been before. In fact, she appeared to have fallen into the remains of some old cave. "Mmm... well... this is interesting. How am I supposed to get out of here?" she asked, sulking a bit as she stood up. The "cave" wasn't even a true cave, but was more like a hollowed out rock that only went back about fifteen feet or so. Sighing, Rosie turned and walked back outside. "Well, if I keep following the sun, I should be headed east. Hopefully I find a tributary that can lead me to the river, and from there I can-- whoaaaa!!"

Rosie had walked out from the 'cave' and ducked past the bush, only to discover a massive, very ancient looking temple in front of her. It was just as tall as the trees! The temple itself appeared to be some sort of step pyramid, but it was covered in thick vines. There were massive pillars and statues scattered around, though time had worn them all down and made it almost impossible to see what they were. Flora and fauna covered almost everything as well. "Whoa. Oh my gosh. What is this place? How old is it?" Faded stone steps that had to be hundreds, maybe even thousands of years old, seemed to invite her right up into a massive dark opening. She started walking up them, though she hesitated at the front. It could be dangerous. What if the building wasn't stable and it collapsed? What if it was cursed? What if there was a den of jaguars living inside?

"... but how often does someone discover a hidden temple deep in the heart of the forest?" she asked herself, grinning from ear to ear. "I'll just take a quick peak. No harm done, right?" Still grinning, she stepped inside and started to look around.

There are many legends that exist in this world when it comes to religion... Since the beginning of time, man had made temples and sanctuaries to honor and worship their deities. In these temples, devotees would honor their deity in many different ways. Sometimes, honoring them was as simple as burning incense for a pleasant smell while other times it was as barbaric as sacrificing innocent, human lives. This temple that Rosie had just entered however was far different than any other explored before in human history... It was a temple dedicated to a very special goddess and the devotees had a unique way of honoring her...

As Rosie would enter the temple and make her way along, painted on the walls of the hallway were a strange type of hieroglyphics very rarely seen in the world... To those that understood, the hieroglyphics revealed that in ancient times, a goddess had given up her divinity to walk along mortals on Earth. The murals would reveal that she did this to bless weary mortals with a lifetime of peace and tranquility until their dying days. In order to experience this life of peace however, the mortal had to serve her with a lifetime of pure devotion...

The markings would go on to state that in times past, the goddess would purposely search the planet for disheartened, or empty souls to offer them her gift. She would often greet these weary souls and offer them a glimpse into her world before ultimately leaving them with a choice... A choice to live their current existence, or become a follower and devote their life to her in exchange for everlasting peace. Those that accepted her would be given peace beyond their wildest dreams. Those that refused however were left to live their meaningless lives, but with a new ever present life long feeling of desire that could never be satisfied...

Further reading of the markings stated that after countless years of amassing many followers around the Earth, devotees of other religions began to see the goddess and her vast number of followers as a threat... A horrible, bloody religious war broke out between the people of many different religions where many innocent souls were killed in their respective deities name.

When the war finally came to its grizzly end, the goddess was horrified by man's thirst for blood... To prevent such an atrocity from ever occurring like this again, the goddess took her remaining followers to an isolated location. There they built a small, quiet community as well as a massive temple to honor the goddess. In this temple, the goddess would house her power and be honored by her subject through their lives... The last few markings on the wall would reveal that while she would continue to live on Earth, never again would she offer her gift of peace on a global scale as she had before... Only special souls would be be given the chance at the gift now and those that accepted would know no other life but one of pure devotion...

The markings on the wall seemed to tell the history of this seemingly abandoned temple and what it's followers had to do for their supposed deity... Whether what was written in the stone was fact, or merely the perspective of this goddess's followers was quite subjective. What was certain was that the followers clearly took their religion very seriously...

Outside of the hieroglyphics depicting the history of the temple and its occupants, there was little else aligned along the temple walls... Any other artwork that was featured was usually various depictions of the goddess and what seemed like murals depicting past worship services to her... What was weird about these murals was that each time a service was had, the goddess's image became less divine in appearance and more...human-like... What could this have meant...?

It was possible that the answers would never be known as the people that lived in this part of the world were clearly extinct like the Mayan or the Incan Empires...right? If such a thought were to enter Rosie's mind, it would be flushed out by a strange sound... Out of the silence of the temple, a sudden yet soft chanting could be heard from deeper in the temple... Unless the chanting was coming from ghosts in the temple, there were still inhabitants alive here! Was this lost civilization truly alive and well!?

Rosie brushed a hand along the very edge of the wall as she entered the outdoor entrance of the temple. It appeared to be some kind of large and grand entrance, probably designed to really make an impact on those who were entering. Even now, possibly thousands of years later, it was certainly making an impact on Rosie. The pillars that supported the large, overhanging stone slab that served as the roof must have been at least 40 or 50 feet tall. "It must have taken years and years to carve those! And after all this time, they're still smooth to the touch. I wonder what kind of stone this is? Is it marble? Whatever it is, it's very sturdy. Definitely strong enough to withstand an earthquake or a hurricane or something. Not that I think those things even happen here in the middle of the rain forest," she said, chuckling to herself as she proceeded towards the main entrance.

Painted and carved into both sides of the walls were a strange set of glyphs that Rosie had never before seen. The characters were fluid and circular, beautiful and artistic in a way that most modern alphabets weren't. Thankfully for her untrained eyes, there were also quite a few paintings that depicted some very interesting scenes. These were also scenes that she had never seen before. Most temples told stories of their gods or goddesses, had instructions for how to enter the afterlife, or simply held records of the goings-on of the times. Rosie was expecting depictions of people farming, raising animals, exploring the river, or hunting. What she seemed to be looking at what something far more different. Intrigued, she pulled out her sketch book and took a few seconds to quickly sketch out one of the depictions in front of her.

It was a woman - that much was obvious - but she appeared far more divine and supreme than the other people depicted around her. A lot of effort had been spent on her eyes. Rosie guessed that every color available to them had been placed into her eyes. They were beautiful and mesmerizing to look at, and it was truly a work of art to behold. Her body was drawn with almost perfect proportions and curves, and there was also a golden glow and some sort of halo around her. Perhaps the golden aura around her indicated she was some sort of deity or goddess. Based on the pictures alone, it looked as though this deity had left her place among the gods and come down to earth to stay with people who looked broken, sad, and downtrodden.

Rosie paced on down the hallway, seeing a few illustrations of what looked like a very bloody war. Was it when the Spanish invaded? Or was this something else entirely? Even further down the hallway showed the goddess-type woman once more, except now there were other people who seemed to also have a golden aura. Theirs just wasn't as strong, but neither was the one around the goddess-type person. The sunlight was fading a bit, but Rosie didn't seem to notice. She was far too caught up in exploring the murals further down the hallway. Was it just her imagination, or was this goddess type person now depicted as more human? What would cause that? Unless, of course, it was done by a different artist, or lots of time had passed between the murals, or supplies had been hard to gather, or something. Any of those reasons made a lot of sense, Rosie concluded mentally.

With a sigh, Rosie took a few moments to try and write out a section of the mysterious symbols in front of her. "I wish I could read what this said. I wonder if anyone even knows what this is? It's certainly not anything I've ever seen. It doesn't look even close to the Mayan pictographs I've studied a bit. No, these look more like actual syllables or letters than symbols for words." She stuck her sketchbook back in her backpack and took another minute to study the wall.

"Mmm... as much as I want to linger here, I really need to find my way back to a part of the jungle I recognize, otherwise I'm going to be spending the night in a-- what was that?!" she gasped. From somewhere deep inside the temple, she could have sworn that she heard talking! Eyes wide, she shook her head and told herself that she had imagined it. "Calm down, you didn't hear anything. I-It was probably just the... the wind, or a creak of stone or-- wait, there it is again!" she gasped, sinking back against the wall. She sucked in a deep gulp of air and held her breath, then shut her eyes to try and strain her hearing. There it was again for sure! It was someone talking, but from far away... no, not talking. It was more rhythmic. Was it... chanting?!

"Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh! Does that mean that there are actual people in this temple?!" she squeaked in a nervous whisper. "Ohhhh, what do I do, what do I do?! What if they don't speak a language I know? What if they think I'm dangerous? What if THEY'RE dangerous?! But what if they can help me find my way back? What if I'm crazy and I'm just imagining hearing things?! Aaaah, what to do, what to do, what to doooo?" she whined, pacing back and forth. Finally, she threw her arms up in the air. "Okay! Game plan... game plan will be... go explore for ten more minutes, THEN turn around and get out of here. And... only go straight, or only turn right. That way I won't get lost. Or maybe if I come to a turn I'll just turn right back around so I don't get lost. Aaah, I'm so nervous! But excited! Why am I still talking to myself?!"

Holding back a squeal, Rosie half-skipped on down the path in front of her, deeper into the depths of the temple.

As Rosie proceeded into the depths of the temple, the chanting she heard gradually began to grow louder. The words that were spoken almost musically at this point were impossible to make out... Whether they were words of a forgotten, or rarely used language was hard to tell. Either way, the unknown musical chanting had a very specific purpose to those speaking it...

Going deeper into the temple proved to be a rather dark and nerve wracking experience... The artwork that littered the outside of the temple was not at all present where Rosie was heading. Worse yet, the hallways were dark, only lite by the sun's rays that shined in from outside. And yet, while going deeper into the temple seemed to mean going into the depths of darkness, a strangely lite room up ahead was sure to perk the curiosity of any passing explorer...

Should Rosie travel down the hallway towards this 'light', she would come to a wide open sanctuary lite by torches stationed all over the walls. The room itself was huge and featured a wide open concept. In fact, the only major features of the room were four very thick, large decorative columns that stood perfectly placed at every direction of the compass...

The columns were so tall that it was impossible to see where they ended at the pitch black ceiling up above. While nothing further than perhaps 30 feet up could be seen, what was eye catching was a very large and beautifully decorative chandelier that danged directly in the center of the room. This chandelier likewise featured a decorative center with four prongs jutting out of it in every compass direction. Attached to these prongs was a large globe housing a flame. The flames though that burned in these globes weren't natural, nor was the color that they burned with...

The flames of the globes burned with no obvious source for the flames to consume... Stranger yet, the flames colors were incredibly odd and changed depending on which direction the globe was facing... The northern globe seemed to burn with gorgeous sapphire blue flame. The southern globe seemed to burn brightly with a ruby red flame. The Eastern flame glistened with the color of an emerald green while the western flame shinned with a pretty citrine yellow...

It was impossible to say what these differently colored flames meant, or what their purpose was. As strange as these flames and the chandelier was, the sight of the people within the sanctuary itself proved to be even more outlandish... For sitting on prayer mats in meditative positions and chanting were at least 300 or more people who seemed to be lost in a meditative state praying towards the room's center...

These people were obviously commoners of whatever this community was... While they seemed like a tribe of superstitious, primitive people, they were dressed quite nicely... The women were dressed in beautiful dresses of varying colors and styles while the men wore robes and garments of equal value. What really stood out though were the group of people sitting on the front of this large prayer circle... These people were especially well dressed in various prayer robes that seemed to glisten, or even glow...

Despite the nice fashion sense the community of people seemed to have, what they were doing didn't seem to make a lot of sense... What exactly where they meditating about? Who were they praying to with their chants? Was it this strange globe directly above them with the different colored flames? Could it have been for something in the spiritual realm that couldn't be seen? While all of this was very much mysterious, the answers to this mystery seemed to come in quite the dazzling display...

Out of the silence of the temple, the directional flames suddenly started to burn brighter than they had before. From their raging form came an ember from each flame that started to drift down towards the floor below. As the colorful embers drifted down, they began to spin and rotate around each other gradually picking up in speed with each rotation. By the time that the flames were inches off of the floor, the spinning embers were moving so fast that they seemed to be like a ring of flames...

This ring of flames didn't last long. For as soon as the ring touched the floor, a blinding flash of light shined all throughout the temple. From this light, the spinning flames began to burn in a strange way... At first, it was hard to make out, but it soon became apparent that what was burning was the figure of what seemed to be a feminine person...

For several moments, this woman clad in rainbow flames stood in the inferno without as much as a motion. When it was least expected, the figure suddenly lifted her arms and with another bright flash of light, the flames flew off of her body and finally exposed who was within the flames... Apparently this was all part of a dramatic entrance...

As soon as the flames had been thrown off of her body, a beautiful woman seemingly in her early 20s stood before the crowd... Her long hair was a dark, flaming shade of red tied back in a long tail of sorts and her azure eyes were lovely and piercing. Her complexion was beautifully pale and her form matched with slender beauty... This woman was clothed in a long blue dress that glistened with a sapphire blue and came equipped with long, matching gloves that wrapped around a single finger. Around her neck was a golden choker while around her forehead sat a golden tiara with a ruby jewel in it's center. The style, look, and appearance of this woman was more than enough to hint that she was someone of great importance...

For several moments, the woman stood with her arms outstretched silently. Then gradually, she began to spin around with a wide smile on her ruby lips listening to the crowd chant in their meditative states.

For several moments she simply spun about listening to those around her without muttering a sound. Then, what first came out of her lips was a happy giggle that seemed to echo through temple halls. It was only after her giggle that she finally lowered her hands and began to address the congregation...

"...My people! Her Grace is pleased with you and your prayers this day! As the Goddess's blessed high priestess, I have been taken part in communion with her. She has told me that she is ready to take up that which you swore to give to her on the first of each month. Now, on this holy day of the month, it is time for her to collect that which you swore to give to her in exchange for her blessings. Offer up your sacrificial offerings so that I may take them to our Grace!"

Sacrificial offerings...? A high priestess of a goddess...? It seemed that what was taking part here right now was a sacrificial ceremony to whomever these worshipers deity was... What exactly did this woman mean by sacrificial offerings...? Was she really going to take part in some barbaric ritual of spilling innocent blood and offer it up to some pagan deity!?

Rosie began to hesitate as she wandered deeper into the darkness. It was stupid to walk into an ancient, abandoned temple without any sort of light source, and yet what was she doing? Walking down this dark and rather dank, musty smelling hallway going deeper and deeper into the unknown. If there was an Exploration Of Ancient Ruins school, surely Rule 1 would be "Don't walk alone into any dark and abandoned ruin without some sort of light."

"Maybe I should turn back around," she murmured to herself. Ah, but the strange music and chanting she could occasionally catch smalls snippets of seemed to be growing louder. Was she getting closer to the source of the strange, ritualistic sounds, or were her ears just playing tricks on her? But wait, what was that up ahead? Rosie peered forward through the darkness and she could swear that she saw light coming from somewhere up ahead. The path in front of her was long and dark, but if there was light at the end of her path, did that mean that she would eventually come out on the other side of the temple? Or maybe there was a hole in the roof and that was sunlight coming through. Either way, light meant she would be able to see more, and it wasn't too far through the pitch darkness.

"Aaah!" Rosie squeaked as she bolted down the hallway, one arm on the wall besides her the whole way. The young redhead finally stumbled to a halt as she came to the entrance into what appeared to be a very large, very wide open room. The chanting was definitely louder here, but Rosie was still on the outside of the room and hadn't yet noticed that the room was occupied. Instead, she found herself staring at the very large stone columns that vanished up into the darkness. The light was coming from the middle of the ceiling, which was a good thirty or forty feet above her head. Maybe even higher, because it was centered in the room in such a way that the tops of the columns couldn't be seen. Somehow, though, the strange chandelier was strong enough to light most of the room below.

Rosie stood back in the doorway and found herself staring up at the immaculate chandelier. There were four prongs coming off of it, pointing in each of the cardinal directions. Hanging from each one was a fairly large glass globe, and inside each one of those glass globes was a burning flame. From this distance it was impossible to tell how it was lit or what kept it lit, but Rosie could have sworn that it almost looked like the flames were simply hovering in the middle of the glass globes. There was no wick or anything she could make out. Surely it was just the darkness playing tricks on her eyes. Was it also a trick of the darkness, or did the flames appear to be multi-colored?!

"What on earth is going on? How are the flames just different colors like that? That's... That's not natural. It's like-- aah!!" Rosie shrieked as she took a few steps into the room and realized that THERE WERE PEOPLE IN THERE. LOTS OF PEOPLE.

In a panic, Rosie went running back to the doorway and hid there. Nobody had noticed her!! All of the people gathered in the room appeared to be deep in chant. What was really weird was how they were dressed. They were almost... normal! If there were people here, Rosie had expected them to be wearing, well, honestly, nothing. Many of the native tribes didn't quite see the point in clothes, especially when it was so hot and sticky in the jungle. Some of the more cultured ones at least wore loincloths, but even then the women often left their upper halves bare as well. However, the people gathered here in this temple were actually wearing what Rosie would consider nice clothes. The fabrics looked fresh, clean, some silky, some mesh, some she would expect to find for sale in a clothing store! There was an inner circle group of sorts that wore finer clothing that almost appeared to be glowing, but that had to be a trick of the weird flames. Rosie was sure of it.

Just then, the flames burst to life. They roared up, much higher and brighter than they had been, and suddenly came whirling and swirling down to the floor! There was a blinding flash, and suddenly Rosie saw a figure in the flames! Wait, where had they come from? Were they INSIDE the flames or on fire?! Nobody seemed to be alarmed about the fact that a person was standing in this ring of fire, and Rosie was both too scared and too in disbelief to move.

With another bright flash of light, the flames whipped off either side of the beautiful woman who now revealed herself to be standing in the circle of flames. She was dressed in a beautiful blue gown, complete with matching long, elegant gloves, a choker around her neck, and a dazzling tiara that held a single, large ruby in the center of it. She was clearly an important person - no kidding, since she had just appeared out of flames! Rosie shrunk back behind the door some more, praying she hadn't been spotted.

"... What is going on? A... A sacrificial offering? Oh my gosh, are they gonna kill someone or something?!" Rosie whispered out loud, her eyes wide. She knew she should leave, but she just couldn't!! She HAD to know what happened next!

Luckily for Rosie, she hadn't been spotted spying on the ceremony. It seemed like everyone in the entire room was lost in some sort of meditative trance... The only one that could have possibly noticed Rosie was the strange woman that appeared out of the flames, but she seemed like she was more focused on the task at hand rather than looking for intruders. Then again...how frequent was it for there to be spectators at an event like this...?

Regardless of whether the spectator had been seen or not, the ceremony was obviously well under way. While it seemed like a sacrifice of some kind should have taken place at the exact moment this high priestess called for it, the crowd continued to silently sit and chant their mantras. There...were no obvious signs of anything happening right away which was sure to leave a question as to what was going on... Even the high priestess who had just ordered the sacrifice to take place was standing where she was doing nothing... Was this really it...?

For several moments, it might have seemed like the only sacrifice these people were giving to their deity was the time of day and a nifty unanimous chant. As the time continued to flow, something very odd began to happen to the congregation of people... At first it was difficult to make out, or perhaps seen as nothing more than a small trick of the strange lighting in the room. With each passing moment, a noticeable aura began to shine around every single person in the room.

The aura that surrounded these people was different for each person, no two were the same. Each had a strange distinct color and shined in different rays of light around the individual! The strength and color of each person's aura continued to grow stronger and stronger with each passing moment! What exactly was going on here!? To the quiet observer, this may not have made any sense at all... To the people who were STILL lost in their meditative trances, this was all part of the sacrificial ceremony.

After a certain amount of time, the high priestess within the center of the room smiled and giggled a contented, nearly prideful giggle that echoed throughout the room. She casually started to walk towards some of the people in the front and eyed them over very closely. As she did, she made what seemed like a dark comment to an unlucky soul...

"Her Grace is well pleased with all of her subjects... Now comes the hardest part with each ceremony... Choosing the select few who will supply Her with sustenance. Now then, which one of you lucky few are going to be the one to feed our Goddess today...?"

It was unclear who this woman was talking to specifically... Considering that each person the priestess passed by, one had to wonder if she was truly speaking to the congregation, or merely taunting them... Either way, things were looking quite dark for the poor soul that the priestess choose to 'feed' to the Goddess... Was this TRULY about to take a turn for the worse...?

As the priestess walked about for what seemed like hours, she finally came to stop in front of a young girl who couldn't have been more than 15 or 16 years old... Like the others, she was dressed in a silky dress that covered her slender, yet still developing form. Her long, raven-black hair was pulled away from her face that also displayed her young feminine features. The only thing that looked mature about this girl were her deep blue eyes that stared ahead into the dark abyss of nothingness...

Once at this girl, the priestess smiled and knelt down to the chanting teenager who happened to have a blueish aura around her. The priestess glared deep into the girls eyes for what seemed like an eternity for...an unknown reason... She did so quite silently for the longest time until at last she finally spoke with those same dark words...

"...I see that you've come of age, my dear..." The priestess spoke following a giggle. "...It's always a proud day when they do. You've grown into a fine young woman, one our Grace would be pleased to feed on. Yes, you will be the first bit of sustenance for our Goddess... I'll take what you offer and give it to Her Grace..."

With that, the high priestess gently moved towards the young girl's face. Once she was merely inches apart from her, the priestess began to softly inhale inward. As she did, it was difficult to make out what she was doing... When the priestess moved back a few feet what could be seen was the poor girl's aura gently being sucked into the priestess's inhaling mouth! As strange as it seemed, was this vile woman literally sucking the life out of this poor teenage girl!?

Being the brave and courageous soul that she was, Rosie backed up a bit more in order to conceal as much as her body as she could while still allowing her as much of a view as possible. How was it that the people gathered in the room just kept SITTING there?! So still, so unmoving, so calm and seemingly at peace. Rosie would have sworn that they were sleeping were it not for the soft, mumbling, almost lyrical chanting that they all continued doing in unison with each other. It was started to make her a little tired and light-headed, oddly enough.

SHaking her head, she forced herself back to focus on the business at hand - a possible human sacrifice was about to occur right in front of her! And what was she going to do about it? Sit there and watch in mesmerized horror? How was the sacrifice going to be conducted? Would they chop off someone's head? Tie them to a post and light them on fire? Stone them to death? Stab them with a special dagger on top of some special pedestal or altar? Rip a person's heart out and then eat it?!

A strangled sound slipped out of Rosie as her imagination got the better of her. You really need to quit watching so many scary movies, she thought to herself as her hands clamped down over her mouth. Had anyone heard her?! For now, it seemed she remained safe back behind the pillar.

A looong and semi-awkward moment of silence passed by. What was happening? Who was going to be sacrificed? Why wasn't anything happening? What was going on? Growing antsy, Rosie slipped forward a little bit, squinting her eyes together and scrunching up her nose as she did so. Wait a minute... what was happening to all of the people sitting down? A strange, ghostly, ethereal, shimmering aura of sorts had appeared around each and every one of them! Each person's was a slightly different color, but all were still a ghastly pastel shade of some sort or another. Some were brighter and seemed more in focus than others. Some seemed grayed out and faded, while others seemed robust and alive.

"What on earth is going on?" Rosie whispered out loud, staring with wide eyes at the scene playing out in front of her.

The priestess stole across the room, floating from person to person. She stopped in front of a young girl who couldn't have been older than sixteen years of age. She was a beautiful young thing, thin and pale and quite perfect. From where she was sitting, Rosie thought that her eyes looked completely blanked out. It was a rather freaky sight, almost as freaky as the pale blue aura that flickered lively around her. Was the priestess holding the girl's face? Rosie couldn't tell. She whispered something to the girl, who continued sitting there without any sort of reaction at all. The priestess knelt down and leaned in close, almost as if she were going to start making out with her, but then she did something else entirely - she started inhaling. As she did so, the blue aura from around the girl was drawn towards the priestess. This continued on for a few moments until it became evident that the priestess was sucking this aura-thing away from the girl! And she was just sitting there letting it happen!!

"Oh my gosh! Is she sucking out her life force or her soul or something like that?!" Rosie exclaimed in horror. Before she could stop herself, Rosie went charging into the shrine. "Stop! STOP! What are you doing?! Get away from her!!" she shouted, moving to shove the priestess away from the young teenager.

As the priestess drew in the young teenage girl's life force, something she had probably done countless times before, she was in no way expecting what happened next... From out of the near silent room came a shrilling scream that demanded she stop what she was doing. Before the woman could even glance in a direction to find the source of the screams, she was violently pushed away from the teenage girl to land back in the center of the room amidst the entire congregation...

As the priestess came to land on the floor, she let out a loud yelp in pain from being shoved so violently. This yelp, combined with Rosie's screams earlier was distracting enough that it brought the entire congregation back to their senses... The priestess sat up holding her now aching arm and witnessed the various auras surrounding the congregation fading. Their chanting ceased entirely and within moments, all of them were looking around at one another a bit confused... It was almost as if they were a bit surprised the ceremony had came to an end so quickly...

With the realization of what had just happened setting in, the priestess stood to her feet and began looking around for the culprit who ruined this incredibly sacred and essential ceremony. As soon as her eyes laid on Rosie, the intruder could easily see an obvious fiery disdain burning in them. Rage filled the high priestess' heart and her words to Rosie perfectly displayed what she was feeling...

"You... How DARE you interrupt this most sacred of ceremonies!? Who are you that you set foot on this hallowed ground and worse yet, push a high priestess of the Goddess!?"

Hearing the priestess' words, the entire congregation realized that something was not quite right... In response to what had been said, every soul in the temple glanced in Rosie's direction with the same look of disdain as the high priestess... In mere moments, Rosie had at least 300 pairs of eyes glaring at her including a particularly agitated high priestess...

(Sorry sorry sorry sorry for my uber long lack of posting!! ;__; I will try to be better about this! )

There were several moments of mass confusion, most of which Rosie spent vigorously trying to shake the young teen awake. Was it too late? Was the girl already dead?! "Hey! Hey! Wake up! Wake uP! It's gonna be all right, I promise! I-I'll get you help! Wake up! Wake up, please oh please wake up, please don't be dead, please..."

Rosie's voice trailed off as she noticed that the chanting had slowed and come to a halt. In its place came slow, soft moans and groans of confusion and surprise. The people had apparently returned to their senses, and Rosie expected them to jump up and help her at any moment now. She had just saved this young girl's life! Maybe she had even helped to free these people from a lifetime of servitude! If they all ganged together and stood strong, surely they could take on one puny looking little priestess. The whole flame thing had to be some kind of weird optical illusion. Science solved everything, after all.

"Come on, get up! It's okay, you're okay, I got you," Rosie said, trying to pull the poor, bewildered looking girl away from the priestess. She stole a glimpse to the people around her. Wait, why were they looking at her with such looks of disgust and anger? Confused, Rosie swallowed loudly and turned to look the other way. Instead, her eyes locked on the form of the priestess, who was now towering up above her.

"W-W-Wait a minute!" Rosie squeaked in terror, realizing right away that she was not being viewed as the hero she was trying to be. "You... I-I... I-I s-s-saw you! You were tr-trying to... you were attacking this girl! You... Y-You were trying to kill her, a-and all of these people, th-they were, like, under your spell, too!"

Rosie's cheeks flushed with embarrassed hues of pinks and reds as she realized that every single person in the room was now glaring daggers at her. If looks could kill, Rosie would have probably died three hundred deaths. The poor girl looked utterly terrified now, but she refused to budge. "I-I-I was... I... I was just trying to save her!" the redhead whimpered, though she remained in a defensive position in front of the young girl she had been trying to rescue.

It didn't take a great deal of time for the young raven-haired girl to come back to her senses. When she had came out of her trance completely, she was greeted by the frantic shaking of a complete stranger. Though Rosie's actions may have been a gesture of concern for the young girl's well being, she didn't exactly see it that way... Waking up in such a violent manner was more than enough to send the poor girl into a panic...

Scared for her life, as soon as Rosie's grip was free, the young girl rolled off of her prayer mat and made a hard dash to a middle aged woman sitting near the front of the prayer circle. Clinging to her tightly, it was obvious that this was the girl's mother. With her daughter now in her arms, both the woman and the young girl Rosie tried to 'save' glared at her with a combined look of fear and anger...

For a brief moment, the entire congregation sat quietly watching the events unfold. As soon as the young girl was safely in her mother's arms, a couple of men near the high priestess rose to their feet. Reaching into their prayer robes, the pair of men pulled out sharp daggers concealed in their robes and proceeded towards the intruder. The daggers were most likely normally used for decorative purposes, but that didn't take away from their very lethal potential...

It seemed as if the penalty for interrupting this incredibly sacred ceremony was death... And this punishment became ever more apparent to Rosie as the pair of men unsheathed their weapons and rose them up while continuing their advance towards her. Without any real way to escape the prayer circle quickly, the two men were upon Rosie in mere moments. They were just about to plunge their weapons into this "hero's" body when a shout came out from behind the men.

"ENOUGH! You all know the law of Her Grace about spilling blood on this hallowed ground!"

The words had came from the priestess that Rosie had pushed aside! As she spoke them, the two men froze in place for a brief moment seeming to realize they almost committed a horrible sin... The two men glanced back at the priestess for a mere moment before silently sheathing their weapons. Bowing their heads respectively and parting in different directions, they allowed way for the priestess to move towards Rosie... Had...the priestess just saved Rosie's life?

The priestess walked forward until she was directly in front of the red-haired heroine. Once standing in place, she glared at Rosie with that same look of disgust she had been giving her this whole time. Rather than just stare though, this time the priestess started doing something else that could end up really shaking Rosie up...

Lifting her right hand upwards near her chest with her palm facing upwards, the priestess stood silently for a couple of moments. Her hand seemed to be holding something in the air, but...what exactly was anyone's guess... Just as if it seemed like the high priestess might be crazy holding some invisible...thing, inside of her palm started to form a glowing blue orb...

As the moments passed, the orb in her hand became more visible and more defined. It's appearance came as if by magic and glowed in the priestess' hand with an otherworldly mystical glow... Perhaps science could explain a lot of things, but would Rosie be able to explain how this was happening? Whether Rosie could explain it or not, this display of power was obviously to show that the high priestess meant business... If her example didn't prove the point though, her words certainly did...

"...Of course, while it is forbidden to spill blood on these grounds, that doesn't mean the penalty shall be receded... I will send you to the afterlife myself with the powers bestowed upon me by Her Grace unless you tell me who you are, where you've come from, and why you have interrupted this sacred ceremony!"

Rosie had walked into a nut house! Were these people that crazy?! Why was everyone looking at her like she had just killed their pet goldfish? Couldn't they see that she was only trying to help save that one poor girl from being killed or eaten by the crazy priestess woman?

Just then, the girl she had been trying to save finally returned to the world of the conscious. Rosie noticed the girl starting to wake up and gasped in relief. "Oh, thank goodness you're all right! I thought for sure that you-- wha-- hey!" The girl didn't say a word to Rosie! She stared up at her like a deer in the headlights, then jerked herself away from Rosie as if she had the plague. The young girl dashed across the circle of people and practically dove into the arms of an older woman who had to be her mother.

The girl's mother was here?! And she just let that crazy priestess woman try to kill her daughter?! Rosie ran her hands through her hair in frustration. "What is going on?!" she cried out in frustration. Her luck wasn't getting any better, as just then several large and muscular men jumped to their feet. A glint of light came shining off of the daggers each one pulled out of their robes. Now EVERYONE was glaring at Rosie. There were literal daggers being pointed at her now! The men started stalking towards her with fire burning in their eyes. They seemed intent on attacking her!

"What-- no, stop! Stop!!" Rosie shrieked in terror, her eyes growing big as saucers. She fell backwards, her hands hitting the ground hard. The men weren't stopping! She shrieked in fear and started shuffling back towards the wall she had been hiding behind. "Wh-What are you doing?! No! P-please, I-I didn't do anything!! I-I didn't mean to do anything! I-I was just trying to help, please, no, don't! Stop! STOP!" Rosie screamed just as the priestess shouted very loudly, her voice piercing through the entire congregation.

A few very long and tense moments passed. The men exchanged glances, but then they put their daggers away and shrank back into the crowd. The priestess... had just saved her?

Rosie didn't budge from where she had fallen backwards as the priestess held her hand up high. What was the woman doing now? Conjuring up more ridiculous fake magic fire? Daggers were one thing, but this showing off stuff wasn't going to trick Rosie. That was, at least until she noticed that a strange blue orb had started to form in her hand. No, not in her hand - it was floating in the air above her palm, hovering completely freely in the air. There was a strange, mystical, almost other-worldly glow that filled the air around her hand, too. It looked like something out of a movie, but this was real life! It was, wasn't it? Rosie couldn't possibly have dreamed all of this up.

"Aah!!" Rosie shrieked, this time losing her balance and falling straight onto her back. The goddess was now towering over her, quite an impressive and foreboding woman by even normal standards, but the fact that this woman had some glowing ethereal sphere in her hand made Rosie quite concerned for her life. Tears were welling up in the corners of the poor redhead's eyes. It was clear just by looking at her that she was terrified. How could a little thing like her have possibly meant to do all the damage that she had somehow managed to do?

"P-P-Please, I-I-I meant no harm or d-disrespect!! M-My name is Rosie! Rosie S-Summers! I-I'm fr-from England, originally. It's a long, long way from here - I-I've lived all over the place. O-oh, n-not that that matters," she gulped, staring up at the priestess with wide eyes. "I-I'm here st-studying the jungle! I want to f-find out more about the people, the plants, a-and the animals! I love the jungle! I... I was lost, a-and I saw the temple and I couldn't help but come inside. I didn't think anyone would be here, a-and if there were people here, I... I thought maybe I could ask for help, b-but when I heard your voices, I hid back there behind the wall, a-and I saw what was happening, a-and it was just so scary looking. I... I panicked! I thought you were g-gonna kill that poor little girl. Please, y-you have to believe me, I-I didn't mean to hurt anyone or o-offend anyone or anything. I... that girl, sh-she just... i-it really looked so... I didn't know it was some s-scared ceremony, how was I supposed to... ohhh, puh-pl-please, please, d-don't kill me!!" she whimpered, on the verge of bursting into tears.

Rosie's explanation and pleas to be spared did little to change the priestess's feelings towards her. She was still quite agitated at having the sacred ceremony interrupted. To her, there was no excuse worthy enough for the interruption. In her views, interrupting something as important as this was a serious crime worthy of the death penalty. And the priestess seemed more than willing to follow through on delivering the punishment... While she seemed like she had the power to do so in an instant, she instead seemed hesitant...

For what seemed like an eternity, the priestess stood over Rosie and stared at her quietly holding the glowing blue orb inside of her hand. There was nothing to say what she was thinking, or if Rosie's words had changed the situation at all... Silence and stillness was all Rosie saw from the priestess for several moments... Those moments had to be agonizing for the poor red-haired heroine...

Eventually, the agonizing wait for something finally came to an end when the priestess gently lowered her hand from the air. Clinching a fist over the blue orb, it slowly dissipated and smoked out of existence leaving to the imagination what it could have done to the helpless girl... With the orb gone, and her arm resting at her side, the priestess slowly turned to the side where she started to talk mostly to herself...

"...To have seclusion and isolation from the outside world for so long... Then to be found by a simple explorer who got herself lost... Has the world really changed so much that..."

For a brief moment, the priestess paused before glancing up at the dazzling chandelier above silently. As she stared upwards, she seemed to be lost in deep thought almost as if in disbelief at what Rosie had just said... Agonizing silence once again filled the room, but it faded just as fast as it had came when an elderly man in the front of the prayer circle rose to his feet to address the obviously confused priestess...

"High Priestess Simone, what does it matter how this girl found us? You are the keeper of the Goddess's law, are you not? The law is clear that interrupting this sacred ceremony is worthy of death..."

"I know the law!" the priestess, now known to Rosie as Simone said, glaring at the man who had just spoken. "...I know it well, Savir. It is my duty to interpret the laws made by Her Grace and uphold them accordingly. Our goddess has entrusted you with the duty of chief to ensure that the people's well being is sought after... Have you forgotten that?"

It seemed that the elderly man who had just spoken up was the chief of this small community... More telling was the fact that he and the priestess didn't seem to necessarily get along that well... While the pair seemed to have their issues, the way they both seemed to speak to each other showed their mutual respect...

"...I haven't forgotten that fact, or my place, Simone..." Savir replied, bowing his head apologetically. "...I mean you no disrespect, but this girl is an intruder... The Goddess herself left in the ancient texts that outsiders are forbidden... They also state the importance of this ceremony and how anyone who interrupts it should die... I know this is our first instance of this in my lifetime, but...do we not abide by the ancient laws given to us by the Goddess herself...?"

Simone glared at the elderly Savir for several moments before turning her attention back to the near sobbing Rosie... Looking closely at Simone, it was obvious that the priestess wanted nothing more than to be rid of this stranger. But...for whatever reason, the powerful woman seemed quite hesitant to bring an end to Rosie's life... Even in light of the now obviously clear laws that had been brought forth to condemn her...

Simone glared at Rosie quietly for several moments before silently making her way over to her side. Kneeling down, she gently coaxed the girl into standing and held her firmly in place as she addressed Savir and the congregation on what was about to be done...

"...The law is clear and will be followed exactly as it has been written! Also stated in the texts though is the fact that the penalty of death is reserved strictly for those whose hearts are impure... I shall personally see where her heart lies and judge her accordingly for it... For now, this ceremony is postponed... This congregation is dismissed and will reconvene when the time is right..."

Hearing these words, every soul in the temple gave the priestess a soft bow of respect before quietly standing to their feet. Then, one by one, the room slowly emptied out of everyone until it was just Rosie and Simone left... As soon as they were completely alone, Simone clinched Rosie's arm tightly and glared deeply into her eyes...

"You have no idea what you've just done... How important and necessary that service was to me, Rosie... I'd love to send you to the afterlife right now for what you've done, but it is forbidden by divine law to do so to the pure of heart... So I'll have to do something else..."

Just as Simone finished speaking these words, she made sure that Rosie had full view into her eyes. Once Rosie did indeed have her full attention on Simone's eyes, her blue eyes started to light up with a bluish, mesmerizing glow that proved to be quite captivating to any onlooker... Simone's eyes had the potential to entrance those who gazed into them... And it seemed as if Rosie was in line to fall under Simone's mesmerizing spell...

"...I can't send you to your destination immediately, but I assure you I'll get you there... It's just going to require...a bit of time... Just look into my eyes and I'll make sure you have a pleasant journey... No pain, or struggles... Just a journey of peace to your next destination..."

Wherever Rosie's 'next destination' was probably wasn't a good place... Being exposed to Simone's powerfully hypnotic eyes though, Simone wasn't sure if she would be able to fully register what she was saying, or if she would even care. For the time being, the high priestess was simply trying to cast her hypnotic powers over the red-haired intruder...

(*blows the dust off of this roleplay*)

Time passed agonizingly slowly over the next few moments while the priestess stood glaring daggers down at Rosie, who had tears running down both sides of her face. How could these people not understand that her actions had simply been a mistake made out of compassion for human life?! These people HATED her - she could feel all of their cold, icy stares on her even now.

As if her situation wasn't bad enough, some elderly man stepped forward to plead not for Rosie's life, but quite the opposite - he wanted her dead! Did everyone here hate and despise her that much? How could they not understand that she had only been trying to save the life of a young and innocent little girl? The man and the priestess started bickering about Rosie's life as if she wasn't even there. These people might have been dressed rather "normally" and spoke a language Rosie understood, but maybe they were actually all savage natives, the kind of people that had no regard for any life and ate other people. Oh, gods, were they going to kill her and eat her?!

That thought caused Rosie to burst into a brand new batch of hysterics. At some point, Simone bent down and managed to pull Rosie up to her feet. The poor girl stammered incoherently as big crocodile tears continued to roll down her face. Simone forced her to turn around and kept a firm grip on her to keep her from running off somewhere - not that she would have. Where could she have gone? Simone spoke to the entire congregation and said that... she... wasn't going to kill Rosie outright?! She had said something about judging her heart, but how was that supposed to work? Rosie had been so upset and had been sobbing so much that she hadn't actually heard most of what the priestess had said. Slowly and silently the room emptied until it was just the redhead and the priestess.

"Oh, p-please, y-you've got to believe me, I-I-I didn't m-mean to cause trouble!" Rosie blubbered the second she found the courage to speak. "Y-You're right, you're absolutely right, I-I have no idea wh-what you were doing o-or what kind of significance it had, a-and I'm sorry, I'm s-so, so, so sorry! If you just let me-- ahh!" Rosie squeaked as Simone grabbed both of her arms very tightly and spun her around so that Rosie was forced to stare directly up at Simone, who was a few inches taller than Rosie.

Something very strange began to happen. Simone's eyes started turning a very bright blue color. They were getting brighter and brighter, almost to the point where they seemed to be glowing. It was a very intense blue, one that Rosie couldn't find herself able to look away from. "Destination? W-what... What destination?" The beautiful glow started to block out the rest of the room. Oddly enough, Rosie felt herself started to feel a bit calmer. A gentle feeling of relaxation started spreading throughout her tense body as she stared up into Simone's glowing eyes.

"A destination... with a... a journey of... of peace..." Rosie felt oddly light-headed all of a sudden. She had no idea that her own eyes had opened nice and wide, almost as if they wanted to absorb as much of that beautiful blue glow that they could. "Journey of peace... no pain... no... no struggling... I... I should just... look into your eyes," Rosie heard herself saying, although she wasn't quite sure that she remembered thinking about saying the words she was suddenly saying.

Every word that Rosie muttered went unheard... Every whimper, or plea she spoke fell on deaf ears with Simone seeming as intent on murdering the young red-head as the congregation of people... Yet, one would have to wonder why she spared Rosie, and what were her plans for the nervous girl...

All of this soon would become an afterthought once Rosie took notice of Simone's abnormally blue eyes. The faint glow of the high priestess' eyes was initially to gain her attention. Once Simone had Rosie's complete, and undivided attention, it was then that she unleashed the full extent of her powers...

With Rosie's gaze now on her own, Simone's eyes completely faded away into the faintly blue glow. The glow of her eyes became stronger and stronger until every spec of her eyes were nothing but a blue glow. There were no iris or pupils... Not even the whites of her eyes were visible... The only thing that Rosie could see was the strong blueish glow of her eyes...

As Rosie would watch, inside of the expanse of Simone's blue eyes, what seemed like a spinning ring of fire began to dance in her eyes... It was difficult to make out what it could have been, but where Simone's pupils use to be was a faint, spinning circle or...spiral of sorts... The pattern moved as if a dancing flame burning in her eyes...

It was impossible to say what exactly Rosie was seeing, but what was apparent was that it was designed to lull Rosie out of her current state of consciousness and put her into a much more...pliable state. Sure enough, the longer Rosie stared into Simone's eyes, the more she would feel a divine bliss flowing into her through her eyes...

"...Yes, Rosie... You need to do exactly as you have said... Just look into my eyes and let me take you on a little journey. I am going to take you...out of this world to a divine place where you will know no troubles... You will be safe and sound away from all harm..."

Simone gently smiled as she spoke these words. Very gently, she eased the tight grip that she had upon Rosie's arm. Doing what she could to help ease Rosie's transition to an impending trance, Simone gently took a step or two forward so all Rosie could was was her radiating, hypnotic blue eyes. To overwhelm her senses, she continued to speak to Rosie, offering her words to lead to the greatest thoughts imaginable...

"...If you'll allow me, I want to take you to some place, very special... I bet you would love to visit the palace of our Goddess and spend some time in her divine courtyard... It's a fantastic place unlike any you'll ever find on Earth... Would...you like me to take you out of this world and let you visit the Goddess' heavenly courtyard?"

(*cracks knuckles* *pauses* *inhales* *blows a ton of dust up into the air*)

The priestess' eyes were so vividly blue! Rosie had been so caught up in fearing for her life earlier that she had never really taken the time to pay attention to just how incredibly deep, deep blue the woman's eyes were. They reminded her of the purest sea, the cleanest river, the most beautiful sapphire gemstone ever to be viewed by mankind. Like someone staring into the sea, Rosie felt herself being pulled deeper and deeper into Simone's pure blue eyes by the second.

Not for a single moment did it cross her mind to think it odd that there was no longer a single trace of anything other than blue in Simone's eyes.

The sense of pure dread that had been eating her alive started to dissipate. Rosie let out a soft murmur of awe as she watched a very strange thing begin to happen inside of each one of Simone's pulsing, glowing blue eyes. Some sort of bright, pulsing, vivid whirl of color appeared at the center of each one. The color writhed, spun, and danced around and around, slowly at first, but as the seconds ticked by, the spinning picked up speed. Before long, Rosie's attention was ensnared by the entrancing pull of the spirals.

"Just... look into... your eyes," Rosie heard herself murmur. Her voice was soft and suppressed. Again, Rosie wasn't sure that she had even actually spoken. She certainly hadn't put forth much effort into thinking about speaking. At the moment, she didn't really seem to be able to focus of much of anything at all... except for those beautiful, swirling, spinning fires swirling in each one of Simone's eyes.

"Must... look into... your eyes," Rosie repeated once more as a wave of calm, soothing energy washed through her. Simone would probably be able to both feel the tension start to slip out of her as well as see her facial muscles start to relax and loosen up. "Go... on a... journey?" she asked, clearly struggling to form a coherent thought.

Unbeknownst to poor Rosie, she was now completely caught in Simone's power. As the priestess took a few steps forward to make sure that her glowing, spiraling eyes were the only thing Rosie could see, Rosie's head tilted upwards in order to better stare deep into her hypnotic spirals. Had she had a grasp on her normal cognitive functions, a trip to a location 'outside of this world' would have set off several red flags. As the case stood currently, such a trip suddenly seemed like the best idea ever!

"Ohh... yes... yes, please," Rosie said, nodding eagerly as a happy, blissful smile began to creep across her face. "I want to go somewhere special. Somewhere safe. I... I want to visit the Goddess!"
