I'm sorry I haven't actually posted here yet, considering I'm probably the one with the strongest opinions about what should be done for changes around here.

I'll make a longer and more in-depth post later, but right now I have two requests I'd like to make.

Please re-ban FifiLaFume

After all the immature things he's done in response to being banned it's absolutely ridiculous to allow him to stay. The last thing we should be doing is giving off the idea that if you whine and beg enough you can have anything forgiven. I'll explain my thoughts on this part of the issue more later, but: the type of person we have here is more important than the number of people we have here.

Emiko, I implore you. Examine everything he has done and ask yourself honestly: "Is this really the kind of person we want around here?"

My second request is please add someone to the moderation team.

I know, I know. It's sort of hypocritical for me to say this considering my past. I don't care. I've spoken about this with you before in private, Emiko, but I haven't seen any action taken. I know you agree with me that we need more than just you watching over this place. I don't care if it's me (although I'd be willing to step back up) or someone else. I just think there should be someone trustworthy making the rounds.

I second Crimson's statements on this matter. We need to keep an assertive, positive image for the site, and the last thing we need is a banned member to be running around much like last time. It's like Ash555 constantly making accounts on various other websites, despite being banned from many of them.

Another thing would be to add someone to the moderation. I know I asked to become a moderator for the site, and I'm willing to use the invitation again, since I want to help with the site instead of just being a normal member.

Another thing I will suggest, of my own accord, is that we need some kind of 'least' amount of English involved. And I mean grammar and such, so we don't have much rushed-looking RPs everywhere, since if all of the RPs look rushed, than it could mean that people view us as lazy and whatnot, even if we all know we're not that.

I apologize for not speaking up right away, but I can't ignore this any longer.

*taps on the glass*

I don't tend to exist around here anymore, but having too specialized boards would be... overboard, that's the only word I got for it. RPs tend to encompass multiple things, and for that matter, tend to encompass multiple locations, too. If anything were to categorize the boards, I'd think who or what appears in it would work the best, but I dunno. It's certainly not like categorizing it would mean nothing else can show up, of course, only that the thing the board is categorized by does so, but...

I'll try to address everything that's been suggested/spoken about in previous posts pertaining to the changes.

@ GenoWhirl97:
I'd rather not hold a contest for changing the background. You, along with everyone else, are welcome to submit pictures or links for things to be considered. However, I'd just like to avoid doing a contest like that right now when we are just in the planning phase of these changes. Should we get a few different options posted in this thread, we will see about it then. Right now though, I don't think it would be productive to hold a contest.

Addressing the Moderation:
I know we talked about it Crimson, and I have admittedly been incredibly slow to put moderators on the forums for various reasons. When I finally decided I was ready to start renovating the site however, I knew that it would involve finding a couple of other members to help keep an eye on this place. I will be increasing the moderator staff as well, but I am going to do so in a way that will hopefully help me to find qualified individuals. I'm going to keep those details to myself temporarily until I figure everything out. Just know that I am going to be adding a couple of moderators to the site.

Addressing the need for better writing:
If there is an area in which I'd like to see the site grow in, it would be in this area here. I would like to see the members of the forum at the very least write out their posts correctly with proper grammar and such. While I'd like to see it, I don't exactly hold a pro-position of imposing regulations to see that happen.

I know I've stated this before, but in my views, when you start adding regulations to the site that nitpick the members and begin making the atmosphere more stressful, it takes away from the purpose of why people come here. This forum is here because a lot of us enjoy having fun in this place. If you start to infringe upon that enjoyment, it unintentionally takes away an incentive to come here.

With that said, I understand the opposing side in that if we just do nothing, we will never see the quality within the site improve. Furthermore, yes, that could leave these forums with a bad image, and that is honestly the last thing I want.

So, what is the solution to this? I for one am not 100% certain, and I am open to any suggestions you guys have. I have had an idea rolling around in my head of having something of a mentor/student program to help those who need it to improve. That would be one way in which we could improve things without having to start nitpicking everyone about their posts. If you guys do have better solutions, I will listen to all of them. I may not always agree, but I always listen and will do what I feel needs to be done in the end.

Random notes!
As the list of changes is starting to grow, I'm going to have a list on the first post I made with all of the changes I plan to implement. The list isn't a finished product by any means, and will most likely continue to grow. Because of that, keep a regular eye on the first post for updates and again, please feel free to keep submitting/debating ideas. I plan on making these changes around the end of this month.

On the subject of better writing, it is going to be our biggest hurdle to get over, but I think we need to be careful how we implement it. I understand that having a strict approach would make some people happy, but I think it would make this niche even smaller in my opinion.

Besides, if I'm honest, I'm not too strict about the skill of my RP partners (when I do take them, but lets not get into that); the only things I really care about is grammar, punctuation, and the necessary skill to write with some detail, or at least not single sentences. I wouldn't expect anyone to be able to write novels or great works of fiction in their RP replies; that's just silly. I can excuse bad spelling and the others in moderation, because I'm not very good at spelling, and everyone makes mistakes making posts.

I think we should expect at least the basics; enough to convey what is going onto a partner so they might respond to move the story along. So I think one line sentences shouldn't be banned outright, but avoided when possible, and encouragement to do well as well.

I think we would get further with a gentle hand more than a stick; and although this might cause some ruffled feathers, I think we should use particular roleplays, maybe even particular roleplayers as things to aspire to, to say 'look at this person/people and how they construct to show what is happening and allow their partner(s) to respond in a well-thought out way'. We're not looking for subject and its content, but how things are laid out and structured. Whether we agree on who to use is another matter entirely, but I'm only throwing this idea out to be looked at.

Though that said, I think we should give people a trial period so they can get used to the site and we can have a look at how well they do. If they're not very good at it, we should give friendly pointers and hints to improve, but if they refuse multiple times are they are just plain terrible (naming no names), then more serious stuff should start happening.

And maybe pats on the back for people who really are trying to improve, because positive reinforcement is good, right?

This is just me brain dumping; I haven't considered too much, but this argument/idea is here now and you may pick it apart to your leisure. Though if you tell me it won't work and won't tell me why, I might become exasparated.

I'm not sure much can be done about literacy on the site. As much as it seems reasonable to impose restrictions on people, would we really want to? I, myself, sort of maintain my own unique style of literacy as do many others on this site. The simple solution is this: If you don't like rping with them, then don't rp with them.

There was once a time when I would have volunteered to be a moderator (if my application was deemed acceptable), but there will come a day when I must leave this forum. And I tend to find myself removed from the controversy that exists on this site.

It was brought up that too many specialized pages defeats the purpose, and I absolutely agree with that. I'd like to see some small expansion to the pages, but nothing too specific or based on fads that will fall into disuse.

Seconding this notion. These sorts of issues will resolve themselves without any sort of overhead needed.

As for further suggestions:

-The General and Chat boards should be merged, getting rid of that redundancy.

-Speaking of redundancy, there's essentially 3 rp boards for hypnotic snakes, 1 for hypnotic creatures that are not (strictly) snakes, and then the non-hypno board. I'd reduce the three snake boards to two, based on what I think is a significant distinction: one for vore and one without. Like it or not, I feel that vore is popular enough to warrant it, and it's a fetish that doesn't exactly play nice with the others associated with Kaa/snakes. That'd also make finding those kinds of future roleplays decidedly easier for the people who are into that kind of stuff.

I think the other two boards could stay as is, but I only say that because I really don't follow them too much.

-Yeah, an art section could be coo'

Oh lookie, it's that one guy with the face and the ponies and whatnot.

Anyways, since Matt told me things might be changing around here, I figured I'd give my two cents on the matter and say that my vote is on the table. Since my leave, I've found myself occasionally glancing in and seeing how this place was doing and... Well, I definately haven't had any desire to return. And while I can't say changing things and improving the site/writing quality will bring me back, I can say that I could rest a hell of a lot easier knowing the place that meant so much to me could break out of it's shell and reform into what I loved it for.

Can't really say I know everything that's going on right now, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I'm only speaking on this matter based on what I have seen on my occasional pop-ins. Regardless, Emiko, I have faith in you and your abilities, I always have. No matter what you do, you're still one of the most level-headed people I know, and I'm glad you're even somewhat open to the idea of improving things around here. Regardless of what you chose, I know you're only doing it because you care about this place.

With that, I guess I'm off. As nostalgic as this is, I gotta shove off and get back to other things. If anyone here that I know wants to get in touch with me, Matt can give you my Skype. See ya later, guys.

If it were that easy, I think half the site would be one. It's a lot of responsibility too...one I didn't live up to on my last board. If I get the chance to try again I will, but eh.

Since most of special creatures is naga/lamia RPs, how about splitting that into two? Split it up into 'Naga/Lamia RPs' (I know. I am soooo imaginative.) and 'Others'.
Just thought I might put that idea out there! smiley

As many of you probably know by now, I am soon going to be appointing a couple of moderators to help me watch over the forum. After doing a lot of thinking, I'm putting forward what I hope will be the best way to find the right individuals for these positions.

Now, before I start anything, there are several things you guys need to understand. I encourage anyone to apply for this position if you want it, but please read this entire post before you decide whether you want to be a moderator or not.

The position of moderator is a big responsibility. To sum up, it's a position in which you are responsible for enforcing the rules put in place on this forum. While you won't hold as much responsibility as I do as the administrator here, there is still a fair amount of responsibility that goes into being a moderator. This position is not for everyone. If you don't have ability to handle a high level of responsibility with a level head at all times, I recommend that you don't apply for this position. I can not stress enough that being a moderator is a big responsibility and a lot of pressure goes into holding such a position.

If you are certain you can handle a position of responsibility like this, there are some things you should know. First off, I highly recommend that you have some time that you can actually dedicate to being here. I understand we all have lives. However, if you are going to be a moderator, you should at least have a little bit of time every couple of days or so where you can come online and keep an eye on things. You don't have to be here every waking moment for hours on end. You just have to have enough time where you can come around and take care of things as needed.

Another thing in which you need to understand is that though you are a moderator, you are not necessarily above the other members of this site. While you do hold a position of authority enforcing the rules, you yourself are not above the rules. Just as I and the other members do, you are expected to follow the rules set in place. In no way do the rules not apply to you just because you hold a position of authority.

The most important thing you need to understand about being a moderator is that you are just a moderator. You don't have the authority to make rules, create boards, or do other things that are the responsibilities reserved for the administrators. Your main job is to simply overlook the forums with what rules that are set in place and handle the situations that arise accordingly with an even head. Naturally, you will be a part of the staff and will be included in discussions for decisions I intend to make for the forums. You can make suggestions to me about rules or ideas that you think might improve the board and I'll be happy to discuss it. Your number one concern though is to help enforce the rules set in place.

One final note I want to make. If I do choose you to be a moderator of the forum, it goes without saying that I am putting a lot of trust in you to help keep an eye on this fragile community. Be aware though that if I catch you abusing your power in anyway, I will not hesitate to take action and remove you from the staff. Be responsible with what power you are given and don't break the trust I'm putting in you.

Now with all of that out of the way, I am going to determine who I think will be a good moderator through an application process. If you want to be a moderator, I am going to ask that every person interested take out the time to fill out an application and send it to me through PM. The information I want present in the application will be listed below:

*Username:
*Primary e-mail:
*Age:
*Member Since:
*Administration Experience:
*Personal Statement:

Simply copy the application above and paste it in a PM titled "Moderator Application". Fill out the application with the necessary information and submit it to me. When you finish the application, it should look something like this...

*Username: LadyTwilight (Emiko)
*Primary e-mail: emikohoward@gmail.com
*Age: 25
*Administration Experience: Administrator of EmikoKaaRP (2006 - 2008), Administrator of KainaKaa (2007 - present)
*Personal Statement: I'm applying for the position of moderator because... (You guys get the idea)

Once you guys have made out this application and submitted to me, I'll copy your info and put it in a word document to look over along with the various other applications that are submitted. The duration in which you can submit your application shall be a period of two weeks. So two weeks from today (2-20-2013), I will most likely no longer be accepting applications.

One last important note: This ISN'T a first-come first-serve basis. I am going to take my time considering who I choose as moderators. If I feel satisfied with a particular members application, I will get in touch with them via PM and have a type of interview with them to determine if they are truly right for the job or not. Should the interview go well, I will appoint that member as a moderator, show them what they need to know, and layout my expectations for their duties.

I'm only going to consider people who send applications to me. Even if I have some ideas of people whom I think might make good moderators, I'm not going to hunt them down and talk to them. Send me a PM to show me you are interested or I'll simply assume you have no interest in being a moderator. Also, DON'T submit your applications here in this thread... If you do that, I will overlook you and dismiss your application from consideration.

Thank you.

I know I said I was cutting off the date for accepting applications within a two week period, but because of the lack of applications actually presented, I'm going to extend the date a little bit longer. Don't have an exact time frame, so let's just say that it's extended until further notice.

Onto a separate note, I hope you guys are enjoying the new art section. Just because it's up doesn't mean that the site renovations are done. I'm still accepting suggestions and trying to further improve the site. As well, any discussions you guys want to have about anything pertaining to the board are encouraged. I'll be sure to keep everyone up to date on what happens whenever I plan on making any kind of big move.
