« Thread started on: Jul 24th, 2016, 1:57pm »

The humidity hung in the air like a thick veil in the jungle morning. The sun had only been up for a few hours and it had not yet cut through the fog that obscured the darkest shade of the rainforest floor. Besides the smallest animals and the odd monkey in the trees little moved, and though the back ground noise of the frogs, insects, and howler monkeys rendered quiet impossible, it was peaceful.

Above the ground tucked away on an open branch a large python laid in a bundle to sun himself, gathering energy. Today was a hunting day, and he wanted to make the most of it. Little did he know he would certainly get the chance to.

The morning rays of light shinned through the jungle on what looked to be just an ordinary day. To those that called this place home, it certainly seemed like it would be just another typical day. The harmony of the jungle though was about to be displaced by the appearance of two friends...

The two friends wandering the jungle trails at the moment were an Indian native from a local village named Sundari along with her foreign friend Emiko. The two had met long ago when Emiko had taken a trip to India for college to study abroad. Upon meeting, the two girls became instant friends and spent most of their free time with one another. When the time came for Emiko to leave though, the pair may have been separated by distance, but they still kept in frequent contact.

Over the years, both of the girls had sent letters to the other keeping them up to date on the happenings of their respective homes. In their letters, each vowed that they would see one another again and were anxious for when that day came. Though it took several years to happen again, it finally did come to pass.

When Emiko had saved up enough funds from her job post graduation, she decided to take a month vacation to the continent of India. Not only did it allow her to the chance to reacquaint with her friend, it also took her to a beautiful land that Emiko had simply fallen in love with. It was the PERFECT place to spend a month away from things.

Upon arriving in India, despite it being years since Sundari and Emiko had seen each other, the two women seemed to pick things right up where they left off. Their friendship continued to blossom and grow showing that neither time, nor distance could keep them apart.

While vacationing on the continent, Emiko was welcomed as a guest in Sundari's home. The two of them frequently spent time in the local village and did the usual things that villagers often did. Emiko enjoyed her time immensely loving the Hindi way of life. Though...if there was one aspect she DIDN'T care for...it was chores... By decree of the village elder, she was required to do a certain amount of chores each day which...wasn't a lot, but it disrupted the whole idea of a vacation... It didn't matter though as she DID get to do her chores alongside her close friend. That's...what brought them to their current situation...

Traveling the jungle paths with water jugs in their hands, both of the women were on their way to a nearby stream to gather some water for the village. They had to do a bit of traveling due to the dry season drying up most of the local river the village lived by. The rains were sure to come soon, but water was still necessary to sustain the village. So for the sake of the village, all of the women were required to travel back to nearby stream to collect water everyday. It just so happened that it was Emiko and Sundari's turn this time around...

As the two women walked through the jungle path, it was quite easily to see from a glance who the foreigner and native was just by their appearance alone.

Sundari was a woman in her late 20s with a semi-dark complexion and a petite figure. Her long, wavy black hair was the envy of the village and her lovely brown eyes seemed to just glisten. Being a village native, Sundari often wore simple clothing to do her chores in. For her at the moment, that meant wearing a a simple long blue skirt along with a matching blue, halter top over her torso. Since doing chores was a hassle to do in footwear of any kind, the Indian native simply chose to go barefoot for its freeing simplicity.

Her friend, Emiko was a bit more reserved when it came to her attire... A Japanese woman in her late 20s, Emiko had a much lighter complexion than her Indian friend. Her long brown hair was similarly wavy, but one couldn't tell it for she had it tied a pony tail. Like Sundari though, Emiko's naturally brown eyes also seemed to glisten and was perhaps her best feature. While she would have been wise to wear the appropriate attire for chores, Emiko instead chose to wear a casual light blue knee length, short sleeve dress along with a simple pair of white strap sandals on her feet...

As the two friends made their way through the jungle, Sundari was walking confidently with the empty jar balanced perfectly on her head. As she traveled, she was more hardly quiet.

"Come on, Emiko! I know you are new to this, but we have to make at least five more trips like this before sunset. You are always talking about how you want to live in my country and experience our way of life. You can't do that if you can't even do the simplest of things!"

Trailing not far behind Sundari was Emiko who was...comically carrying her jar in her hands. It took everything she had just to keep the jar from falling out of her arms. To keep up with Sundari, the poor woman had to almost waddle quickly behind her...

"Sure, I'd love to live here, but not for the chores! I just want to stay here because I love the country's culture and beauty! I never said anything about wanting to be here for the chores!"

Hearing her friend, Sundari simply laughed.

"You can't have one without the other! Living here comes at a cost. You can have everything you love about my country, but not without doing the work necessary."

Emiko wasn't necessarily thrilled with Sundari's response, but she understood it. Even where she came from, you had to work if you wanted to make any sort of a living. It was...just different here. Far different than she ever could have imagined...

As the two girls made their way through, neither of them were being particularly quiet. Honestly, there was no need to be as predators very seldom came this close to the village. While THAT was the norm, even the norm could easily be broken... And if fate had anything to say about it, it most likely would...

Little did the pair know that the dry season had forced the jungle residents to change their own schedules and where they spent their time. This, compared with the longer trips outside the village to get to the water source, which now had even more creatures clambering for it than usual, means the girls were far more likely to run into a resident of the jungle.

If only they had run into something small and cute and cuddly.

Instead their path took them right underneath the home of the large python that was preparing for it's hunt. Possibly the worst place for them to be.

Sarrl, the ypnotic python stretched for an unknown number of feet of scale and muscle, with a black and blue colour pallet that melted into the shadows of the jungle, and a bright blue underbelly that made him look like a patch of sky when seen from below. The pair barely had a chance to detect him due to his camouflage and lack of movement, but he became well aware of their presence before they even came in earshot. Despite the girls best efforts to gossip it was his sense of smell that picked up on them first, and by the time they were in sight he had fully woken up from his doze. He smiled with sinister intent as he watched them, the native walking easily and the foreigner trudging along barely able to handle her load. Sizing them up he began planning in his head which one to go for and how to go about it.

He slowly let them walk along beneath him completely without incident, but as they moved away he began to follow just closely enough to hear their discussion, looking for more potential weaknesses to exploit.

Continuing their trip towards the nearby stream, neither Emiko nor Sundari had any reason to really be observant of their surroundings. There hadn't been an attack or fatality in this part of the jungle in years. Plus women had traveled this path back and forth everyday without consequence. It made perfect sense that they weren't quite on their guard...

The pair continued to travel on until they finally got to the stream where the cool, crystal clear water flowed. Once there, Sundari and Emiko both filled up their jugs and started to prepare for the trip back. Before they did so, Sundari couldn't help but notice how tired just this one trip had made Emiko... It was obvious to see she was worn out she was by her heavy panting and red face obviously from the heat...

"Emiko, I know this is hard on you, but...is it really so difficult that you can't do this particular chore? The village elder promised you could do chores exclusively with me IF you did everything that was asked of me on any given day. If you aren't able to do this, the elder may give you something else to do with someone else..."

Hearing this, Emiko knew what it meant... For the most part, Sundari had been given the lighter things to do in the village most likely for her sake to help Emiko settle in. While fetching water wasn't necessarily a hard chore, Emiko just wasn't quite use to the heat...

"...I'm sorry, I really am trying..." Emiko replied somewhat sadly. "...I'm just not use to these conditions. You've lived in India your whole life. Where I come from, it is only hot a few months out of the year. I'm not use to working in constant, excessive heat..."

Hearing Emiko, Sundari couldn't help but nod... She understood where Emiko was coming from, but it didn't solve the issue at hand...

"...I get that... I really do, but the village elder may not see it that way... We were given the task of bringing back water and we need to do that. If you are really that tired though, I don't think the elder would object if you were to take a break and cool off... I need to head back, but would you be all right here by yourself for about 10 minutes if I did return my water?"

When Sundari talked about going back and letting her cool off here, Emiko knew the real reason why she was talking about going back alone... The village elder was a merciless man and Emiko knew wanting to cool off back at the village wasn't an option... The elder would simply yell at her for wanting to take a break when 'the balance of the village hung in the balance'... Sundari was trying to protect her friend which meant leaving her here to cool off instead of returning home for a break...

"...I hate to see you have to go all the way back to the village without me, but...I don't think I can make the trip back... If you're just going to come right back, I should be ok for about ten minutes. If not, I know the way back...I think..."

Hearing Emiko, Sundari just smiled at her friend.

"I'll only be gone about 10 minutes. Just long enough to dump my water in the community fountain and I'll be back for more. I'll just tell the elder your slow moving and he will be fine. Like I told you before we came out here, the river is perfectly safe. Just stay in this area where I can find you again, and you'll be fine."

With that, Sundari picked up her jar and once more balanced it on her head. Giving her friend a brief wave of her hand, she turned and started making her way back to the village. As she went off, Emiko smiled and moved over to sit by the water's edge. After a quick wash of her face to cool her off, she simply sat and waited for her friend to return from her short walk back from the village.

For a moment the serpents jaw just dropped at what Sundari had said, but after a moment of hearing her continue to talk about it and knowing what she said was true Sarrl's expression lit up in absolute delight as the native explained her plan to leave the other completely alone and unguarded. A flurry of spirals went through his eyes and his grinned widened dramatically as he licked his lips. His head swayed side to side as his coils tightened around some of the branches they had come to wrap around as he had stopped to watch them fill their water jugs.

The snake calmly watched the native leave as he plotted how to take... Emiko, had she been called? He only had ten minutes, but she didn't exactly look to be in a state to resist too much. The serpent shrugged his neck to himself, he had done more with less time, and he had plenty of options with ten minutes to work with.

When Sundari had completely disappeared down the path he began to slowly slip down from the trees above. Before he made himself known he began making a slow, subtle hiss laced with hypnotic power to try and ensure Emiko was in an agreeable mood for when he introduced himself.

After a moment of this he stopped and fed more coils from the trees above into his dangling neck, giving him space to move towards the woman. "Excuse me..." He said softly as his head lowered to about the same level as hers as she sat on the ground, but he kept a bit of distance to avoid scaring her.

As soon as Sundari vanished from sight, Emiko began to hear this strange hissing sound overhead... While it was rather soothing to the sound, its hypnotic potential was rendered nearly useless due to the loud jungle insects and the rushing water behind her. As such, there was little to relax her and calm her initially...

It was about that time that Emiko heard someone speaking to her from behind. When she heard the voice, she instantly grew nervous figuring a villager had followed her in and caught her slacking... Figuring this to be the most likely case, she slowly turned towards the source of the voice only to gasp in shock at what it really was...

It was a python! A massive python towering from the trees above. That alone was quite alarming, but what REALLY made Emiko pause was when she swore that the snake had just said something... Was...it truly the thing that spoke...?

"...D-did you...just say something...?" Emiko asked nervously, hoping the heat was causing her mind to play tricks on her...

"Yes I did!" Sarrl said kindly while internally he scowled. He should have kept the hiss up for a bit longer, but he didn't think he had the time to play around too much. As it was he still didn't have too much time to mess around talking, but if he was going to do this what would be the point if he didn't do it right? Sure he COULD just grab her with a coil or try to hypnotize her flat out. He COULD do that with most of his prey, it simply wasn't what he DID.

"I was just wondering a bit about you. You seem to not be from around here and I enjoy meeting those from far away places. I find the experiences quite... delectable." He managed to suppress the chuckle his little tease brought, and instead let his tongue lazily flicker out as he slid just a tad closer to the young woman. He still made sure to stay out of arms reach for the moment.

"I think I over heard your name was Emiko?"

When Sarrl confirmed that he had indeed just spoken, it blew Emiko's mind. She couldn't believe what she was seeing! A talking python? How was it that civilized society didn't know anything about this? It was true that she had been told by Sundari that there were likely animals with this ability, but Emiko always thought that was just a fable. Yet, here one was, doing just that!

Sarrl's friendly demeanor seemed to keep Emiko in check and send her scurrying back to the village. The fact that this area had also not seen any dangers in the last decade or so also helped to keep her calm. While she wasn't running scared, she wasn't quite a snake person and was a tad bit nervous by Sarrl's presence. Though her mystified curiosity worked heavily against her to keep her in place.

"Y-yes...My name is Emiko... I'm sorry if I seem a bit surprised... I've just never met a talking snake before. I'm shocked that there are animals that can actually speak. If...you can talk, does that mean that you also have a name?"

Slowly Sarrl kept approaching her as she talked, nodding knowingly when she mentioned never meeting a talking serpent before. His tongue casually flickered again as he sized her up.

Now that he was closer he slowly slid around her, just within arms reach as he said, "Yes, I do." Without offering further comment for a moment. When he had finished the loop and had his neck completely surrounding Emiko as it hovered he looked at her eye to eye and said, "But I think I'll keep that secret for now, so I can trade you for that information. How about you tell me where you're from?"

He smiled at her slyly, loving to play the role of a mysterious serpent with hidden wisdom and secrets. Little did she suspect the most relevant secret was he was imagining her happily and helplessly wrapped in his coils for dinner, and many others of his secrets were ways to put her there after having a little fun.

The python's approach was met with with a tad bit of concern as he gently looped a coil around her. Emiko didn't necessarily feel like she was being threatened, but again that whole not being a snake person was working against her and the situation. Not wanting to start an unprovoked attack though, she remained calm and let the python curl around for the time being.

When Emiko heard that they python did indeed have a name, but wasn't about to divulge it, she grew a little curious... As he went on, she realized that he was going to play a game of trading for information... To Emiko, it seemed somewhat suspicious that this unusual creature was taking this sort of route...

"...Well...I could tell you where I'm from, but...it seems a bit unfair that you already know my name, and I know nothing about you except that you can talk... Regardless of how you got my name, you still know it. Wouldn't...it at least be beneficial to both of us to be properly introduced?"

Sarrl scoffed at her question playfully. "All you know is I can talk? You just said you were shocked I could!" He chuckled a bit jovially as his tail slid down from above and curled about before pointing towards a section of his neck like a hand to a human's chest.

"My name is Sarrl!" He declared with a bow of his head, then his tail flipped around to reach towards her for a handshake, ever the gentleman. The act of being polite and kind was genuine, in his own way.

Hearing the python's name brought a bit of ease to Emiko's mind. Perhaps there wasn't anything to really be suspicious about... After all, he certainly seemed polite enough to Emiko who had never met such a gentle giant before.

"It's...nice to meet you." Emiko replied, offering her hand to shake Sarrl's tail. "...I...I come from a place far away from here. A country far across the ocean from this one. I assume that since you live in these jungles, you've probably never heard of a continent called North America? Regardless, that's where I come from."

"Oh no, I haven't heard of it!" Sarrl said, genuinely interested in what she had to say for the moment.

Moving onto another question he asked, "So Emiko, what makes you happy? What do you enjoy to do in North America that makessss you feel pleasssure?" The question was supposed to sound innocent, but it served a greater purpose, and his was once more laced with hypnotic power.

(You rolled 4 dice:

He was looking for weaknesses to exploit, pleasures to grant. Surely she wouldn't give up her darkest desires normally... but he was a snake; who was he to judge, the hiss would argue in the back of her head. Above all he tried to seem as genuinely interested as possible to get as much out of her as possible even if the influence didn't work.

Sarrl's question about what Emiko liked to do back home wasn't quite taken the way he had probably hoped... Instead of soothing her down and getting her to divulge anything that might be worthwhile for him to exploit, she...instead told him about her hobbies which was what she was certain he was actually casually asking about...

"...Well, back home, I often spend a lot of time reading, writing, being with my friends and family... There are honestly so many things that I like to do, I couldn't possibly name them all! What about you? Do talking snakes have hobbies, too?"

She was so naive... Emiko never for one moment thought the snake was inquiring her to best figure out how to get her into his coils. Yet as sad as it was to say, her own naivety seemed to be actually saving her for the moment. At least, from the python's attempts to get any significant information out of her or soothe her down.

"I see, I see." Sarrl said with a smile. Though the information didn't seem extremely valuable it could come in handy. It seemed the naive young girl was rather bookish, both reading AND writing. The snake couldn't read, he had never had the chance living in the jungle, but it took a certain kind of person to say those were their two favorite things. Typically a kindly, perhaps a bit shy individual. Someone who he could hopefully flatter into a better view of him, not that there wasn't someone who COULDN'T be flattered into liking him, but know he knew the kind of flattery to go for.

"Oh, I have a few things. I think one of them would have to be my best secret yet, as it's something to do with friends I think you'd quite enjoy! But first I want to know you a bit better! Otherwise I enjoy lounging most of the day if I'm not polishing my scales. I have to put quite a lot of work into keeping them as lustrous as they are. I can tell you seem to put quite a bit of work into keeping yourself lustrous as well!" His tail slowly lifted a portion of her hair and let it flow off strand by strand. "I must say reading AND writing! You must be very intelligent! I can't even read!"

When the last of her hair fell from his tail tip he put it to his chin to make a point of thinking what to ask next. While he did so he slowly laid his neck across her shoulders so the soft coil could gently hug to her form with a firm, relaxing grip. "Oh, I should ask, do you mind if I rest myself like this. My neck is quite heavy hanging like this." He said politely, and then he made a point of looking her up and down, "Oh, and you're seated on the dirt. My next question should be if I could help you be more comfortable!" AS he spoke the coil on her shoulders gently squeezed and relaxed in a massaging hug to show how nice the scales could feel.
